Matchframe began in 1984 with a radical idea. The idea was that Instead of bringing producers to a facility, bring the facility to producers. Advances in editing technology enabled Matchframe's founders to design portable on-line editing packages that could be placed on site at production companies, freeing them from working exclusively in expensive on-line bays anchored in large facilities.
It soon became apparent that by breaking the rules, Matchframe was setting new standards. Based solely on its reputation, word of mouth and personal relationships with satisfied clients, Matchframe Video was able to draw a diverse clientele while maintaining a very low overhead. In an era of escalating post production costs, Matchframe was able to pass on substantial savings to its clients.
As demand for Matchframe's customized editing systems grew, it became apparent that the company also needed to provide a location where edit bays would always be available. The company that built a business by providing an alternative to facilities now needed to build one.
In 1991, Matchframe moved to its current location and designed additional office space so that clients could locate their business on the premises. By 1995 Matchframe was occupying almost 15,000 square feet, and offering audio sweetening, graphics and duplication services in addition to off-line and on-line editing. The following year Matchframe opened its first telecine bay, allowing the company to offer its full range of services to projects originating on film as well as video. Matchframe continued to expand throughout the '90s until it was occupying most of the three floors at 610 N. Hollywood Way.
Continuing its drive to provide "smarter post" for its clients, Matchframe created "Symphony Hall," an installation of five Avid Symphony systems linked via Avid's Unity Media Net to give clients a speedy and cost-effective nonlinear online solution.
In February 2001, Matchframe purchased the assets of ASC Rentals, a division of ASC Audio Video Corporation (ASC). The acquisition effectively doubled the rental inventory of Matchframe and allowed the company to offer clients a wider variety of location-based editing solutions ranging from customized high-end finishing systems to cost-effective off-line systems.
In early 2002, Matchframe became fully high definition capable with the acquisition of its first HD Spirit telecine and da Vinci 2K color corrector along with HD upgrades to its Discreet smoke and the addition of an Avid|DS HD. Matchframe became one of the first facilities to install an HD Mac, giving clients the ultimate flexibility in working with source material in any format or any resolution.
Matchframe then completed a $12 million dollar expansion of its HD capabilities, capped with a new linear HD online suite, a second Spirit Datacine with da Vinci 2Kplus color correctors and Avid DS HD upgrades.

Matchframe on Demand (M.O.D.)
M.O.D. was conceived as a single pass workflow system able to work with media types previously unavailable outside of the edit. Now everyone in the network can view and work with the same footage after capturing the footage just once. No more dubs, no more re-capturing, no more headaches. Digitized delivery of many hours of footage to the client next day is now possible with the use of M.O.D.
